Synopsis
The film tells the short life of Ludwig Wittelsbach, king of Bavaria, who ascended the throne at the age of nineteen in 1864. The young Ludwig perfectly embodies the myth of decadentism: an esthete, in love with Wagner’s art and music, he burned with ardor its immature existence. He was disinterested in the destiny of his Kingdom, dividing his passions between the love for his cousin Elizabeth and unbridled orgies in his castles. Precisely because of his dissolute life and far from the interests of the Kingdom, he was deposed. He was found mysteriously drowned in 1886.
